Porto Ercole is a pretty seaside resort located on the Argentario promontory, which has managed to preserve the appearance of the fishing village intact and whose historic core, which is accessed through Porta Pisana, topped by the Clock Tower, is still enclosed by the walls.

The ancient housing nucleus is gathered inside the walls at the foot of the Spanish Fortress; over the years the town developed along the natural bay which forms the port. Porto Ercole is located on the eastern coast of the promontory, less than three kilometers from the Telegrafo, the most important relief of the Argentario; in addition it is located within the Argentario National Park.

In addition to the natural beauties, the charm of Porto Ercole derives from the imposing Spanish fortresses that were built in the 16th century, during the Presidi State: Forte Filippo, the Rocca and Forte Stella are three perfectly preserved fortifications from which, among other things, you can admire wonderful views of the sea.

Porto Ercole, enjoys its beautiful Mediterranean climate, in hot and dry spring, in hot and humid summer, these characteristics only entice you to go to the sea. There are various bathing establishments, the “Feniglia”, a 6 km long beach with a low, uniform and sandy coast, enriched with all kinds of services, bars, restaurants, rent bikes, water scooters and much more.

Interesting perhaps decisive for those who choose a holiday in Porto Ercole, are the characteristic beaches that take shape at the foot of Monte Argentario: they are formed by both gravel and rocks, extend on the jagged coast and, in some places even on a peak. Involving and definitely to do is a nice bike ride in the pine forest of Feniglia.

A flat and easily practicable path extends into a pine forest for 6 km, the park is protected and almost always docile fawns and fallow deer meet. Parallel to 200 meters, there is the homonymous beach. For mountain lovers and mushroom hunters, in autumn Monte Argentario is the ideal place, both to breathe some fresh air, and to collect porcini mushrooms and chestnuts.
